A large shrub up to 3 m tall. Leaves 5-12 x 1-2 cm, elliptic to ovate-oblong, cuneate or rounded at the base, glabrous above, glandular-pilose and pale green beneath. Peduncle 3-5 cm long, stout, flattened and thickened upwards, glandular-pubescent. Bracts 4-6 mm long, linear-lanceolate, bracteoles c. 1 mm long, free, glandular-ciliate. Calyx glandular-pubescent, lobes triangular. Corolla bilobed, c. 12 mm long; tube much shorter than lobes, glandular-hairy both within and without, strongly gibbous at the base, greenish-yellow diffused with deep red at the base. Berries c. 7 mm long, ovoid, red, free.
