Near Peacock III, A Cooter loses interest in the camera and gets back to business. If that hitchhiker created that big bald spot, that's pretty impressive for such a small snail.Due to an influx of river water, this Cooter is sinking in a much more than usual shade of green water.Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State ParkSuwannee County, Florida, USAOlympus OM-D E-M514-42mm II LensPT-EP08 Underwater Housing, PPO-EP01 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom Gear

This Red-Belly has the best basking spot along the bank. Easy to climb up onto, a cinch to jump off of in a moment's notice, plenty of hiding spots underneath, and it's got a great view of the head spring.Unfortunately, you're out front and in the open for any goofball with a camera, and there's no WI-FI.Florida Red-Bellied CooterAlexander Springs Recreation AreaOcala National ForestLake County FloridaOlympus OM-D E-M514-42mm II LensPT-EP08 Underwater Housing, PPO-EP01 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom Gear

For some reason, this fairly big Cooter swam directly up to me, and didn't realize what was going on until it bumped into the camera. Maybe I was putting out some kind of giant turtle vibe...Alexander Springs Recreation Area, Ocala National Forest, Altoona Florida, USASeaLife DC1400

If you play your cards right, you can sneak right up on these Cooters while they are doing a little snorkeling of their own.Once they spot you, it's game over. Not to brag, but I'm usually pretty good about sneaking up on stuff; I come and go like the wind... (underwater) and I often get to experience things close up that most people never even see. Sometimes though, the wildlife comes right to me, which is the always best. Every time this happens, I get the feeling they're just curious, and then, when they realize it's just some goofball human with a camera, or they bump right into me, they take off. Due to an influx of river water, this Cooter, along with at least one hitchhiker, is sinking in a much more than usual shade of green water near the siphon at Peacock III.Visibility wasn't too bad overall, but definitely not the best. We saw a 4-5 foot gator resting on the surface in Peacock III a little later, but even I don't go poking around in search of 'em in murky water.
