Diceroprocta vitripennis is known from Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin (U.S.A.) (Sanborn & Phillips 2013). The range of this species extends farther north than any Diceroprocta, with specimens collected as far north as Michigan and Wisconsin. It is found in grassland habitats as well as in the western portion of the eastern deciduous forest phytogeographic region. Sanborn & Phillips (2013) collected D. vitripennis in willow (Salix spp.) and grasses and it has also been reported to use cottonwoods (Populus spp.). (Sanborn & Phillips 2013)
