Corallus cookii, also known as Cook's tree boa[3] or Cooke's tree boa,[4] is a species of nonvenomous snake in the family Boidae. The species is endemic to the island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean. There are no recognized subspecies.[3]

Etymology

The specific name, cookii, is in honor of English artist and naturalist Edward William Cooke.[4]

Description

C. cookii is similar to C. hortulana and C. grenadensis, only smaller, with adults reaching a total length (including tail) of 5 feet (152 cm), and being mainly gray or brown in color. Not more than a few specimens exist in captivity.[5]

Reproduction

C. cookii is viviparous.[6]

Geographic range

Endemic to the island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean, C. cookii is known only from a few locations on the island. The type locality given is "West Indies", which was restricted to "St. Vincent" by Henderson (1997).[2]

Habitat

The preferred natural habitat of C. cooki is forest, but it is also abundant in urban areas. It is found from sea level to an altitude of 500 m (1,600 ft).[1]

Etimología

El nombre específico, cookii, es en honor al artista y naturalista inglés Edward William Cooke.[2]

Descripción

C. cookii es similar a Corallus hortulanus y Corallus grenadensis, solo que más pequeña, los adultos alcanzan una longitud total (incluida la cola) de 5 pies (152 cm) y son principalmente de color gris o marrón. No existen más de unos pocos especímenes en cautiverio.[3]

Rango geográfico

Endémica de la isla de San Vicente en el Caribe, C. cookii se conoce solo en unos pocos lugares de la isla. La localidad tipo dada es "West Indies", que fue restringida a "St. Vincent" por Henderson (1997).[4]

Il boa arboricolo di Cook (Corallus cookii Gray, 1842)[1] è un serpente appartenente alla famiglia Boidae, endemico dell'isola di Saint Vincent, nelle Antille.[2]

Descrizione

Si riconosce dalle specie congeneri per le dimensioni più ridotte e per la mancanza di variazioni cromatiche.[2]
Gli adulti hanno una lunghezza di circa 1,52 m. Nei maschi il dorso è grigio, mentre nelle femmine è più scuro. Negli esemplari giovani la testa ha diverse sfumature verdastre.

Biologia

Distribuzione e habitat

L'areale della specie è stato ristretto da Henderson (1997)[3] alle sole foreste dell'isola di Saint Vincent, nel Mar dei Caraibi.[2]
