Diagnostic Description

Hind tibiae without apical spurs; basicosta without strong setae; third antennal segment with a strong dorsobasal forward pointing spine that often reaches to or beyond the end of the basal flagellomere; eyes bare; not a stout, bee-like species with inflated fore tibiae; antennal scape not greatly elongated; frontal callus well-defined; maxillary palpi slender; frontal callus slender, ridge-like, narrower than the front; species not black; wings usually with dark markings; labella largely shiny and sclerotized; mesoscutum not transversely banded; cell r5 of the wing closed and petiolate, rarely open; wings diffusely patterned, without a sharp median band; legs entirely deep black and black pilose, except for narrowly yellow femoral apices and paler coxae; abdomen without a median dorsal stripe.
