This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: cephalic sensory-pore system pattern 2 (lacking only IT pore); dorsal/anal fin-ray formula 8/7; unbranched pectoral-fin rays; fifth pelvic-fin ray 9.7-12.9% of 4th; caudal-fin base with a narrow dark bar; a red line reaching down from under eye to jaws; presence of 5 postanal ventral-midline spotsassociated with subcutaneous bars; absence of black crescent-shaped marks underneath pectoral fin (Ref. 95167).
