This snake is restricted to the southwest coast of India, in the state of Kerala. where it inhabits coastal marshes and swamps.

Name Change

This snake is now in the genus Dieurostus. A molecular study (Kumar et al 2012) revealed it to be the sister of Myrrophis chinensis.
