This northern fern shows a preference for limestone-influenced areas and differs from its relatives in having fronds distributed along an extended rhizome.
Endemic to Hawaiian Islands. Elevation around 4400ft/1341m. Note the erect, white, fleshy spines on upper surface of midrib which are key identifying characteristics, and do not exist on any other native Hawaiian fern.
