This species is recorded from the eastern Pacific coast of Panama (see Maluf, 1988).
A syntype (USNM 34415) of the juniour synonym Sarkaster validus Ludwig, 1905 was collected from South of Rey Island (Centroid Latitude: 7.5433, Centroid Longitude: -79.2667), Perlas Archipelago, Gulf of Panama, Panama, eastern Pacific, North Pacific Ocean, by the R. V. Albatross from a depth of 523 m.
