Hastula hectica, common name the sandbeach auger, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Terebridae, the auger snails.^[1]

Description

The length of the shell varies between 30 mm and 80 mm.

Distribution

This species occurs in the Red Sea and the Indo-West Pacific.

H. hectica has a wide range and is known throughout the Indian Ocean into the Central Pacific, from E Africa to the Polynesian and Hawaiian Islands, recorded from the intertidal zone to depths not deeper than 10 m. Probably not present in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, nor on the shores of the Horn of Africa.
