“Prosipho antarctidis (Pelseneer, 1903)
Sipho antarctidis Pelseneer, 1903: 22, pl. 5, fig. 60.
Prosipho antarctidis: Thiele, 1912: 262; Powell, 1960: 151.
MATERIAL EXAMINED: Eltanin Stn 740.
DISTRIBUTION: Bellingshausen Sea (350-569 m) and off Tierra del Fuego (384-494 m).
REMARKS: A single specimen from Eltanin Stn 740 matches Pelseneer's description and figure of P. antarctidis. As Thiele (1912: 207) indicated, Pelseneer gave incorrect measurements for antarctidis in his original description; these should be 12 x 5 mm. The specimen from Eltanin Stn 740 is much smaller (4.6 x 2.1 mm) and has only five spiral cords on the penultimate whorl as against six for Pelseneer's holotype, but has exactly the same number of cords on the last whorl and base (6+5). The diameter/height ratio for the holotype would be 42 from the amended measurements but is 45 from the figure as against 46 for the specimen from Stn 740. The relationship with P. similis Thiele is discussed under that species.”
