Hanley had noted in 1860 that the lunular and ‘front dorsal region…are manifestly and though faintly and minutely marked with divergent striae’, and this feature is well shown in Soot-Ryen’s photograph. Examination in the British Museum (Natural History) of the type-series from Valparaiso shows that pisum should be included in Linucula. The distribution of pisum is difficult to map because it is impossible to be certain that all records really refer to pisum. From the literature the range has been given (Soot-Ryen, 1959, p. 12) ‘Valparaiso south to Magellan, Falkland Islands, San Blas, Argentina (Dall 1908)’. Specimens in the British Museum labeled as ‘Nucula pisum’ from the Falklands do not belong to this species but probably represent N. falklandica Preston.”
