Perna perna (Mexilhao Mussel) is a species of mussels in the family Mytilidae. They are native to Atlantic Ocean, Sri Lanka, South Atlantic, Venezuela, mediterranean region, India, Uruguay, Mozambique, Madagascar, South Africa, Indian Ocean, and Brazil. Adult Mexilhao Mussel form marine reefs. Individuals can grow to 387 mm. They have sexual reproduction. They are sessile animals.
