North, South, Stewart and Chatham Islands, low water to about 50 fathoms, in mud or fin sand. Thames Estuary, Hauraki Gulf (type). Very abundant in the north in shallow water.
Shell small, elongate-oval, with a strong posterior-dorsal ridge, terminating at the squarely truncated posterior end. Sculpture consisting of numerous deeply incised concentric growth lines. Colour dull white to greyish externally, white to purplish-brown internally, darker at the ventral margin.
Length 12.0-13.5 mm., height 7.5-9.0 mm., thickness 5.0-6.7 mm.”
