Kellia cycladiformis (Deshayes, 1834)

North, South, Stewart and Chatham Islands, from low water to about 120 fathoms. Often found nestling inside mud-filled empty larger bivalves. New Zealand (type).

Shell ovate-globose, thin, white, under a pale yellowish periostracum, and smooth, apart from some concentric growth lines. Hinge-plate weak, with an oblique narrow resilium. Right valve with an anterior cardinal and a posterior lateral. Left valve with two cardinals and a posterior lateral.

Height 11.0-14.6 mm., width 13.0-17.3 mm., inflation 8.0-11.0 mm.”
