“Acanthamunnopsis hystrix gen. nov., sp. nov.

Description. Apex of rostrum on cephalon broadly rounded. Dorsum with spines on edges of all peraeonal segments. Peraeonal segment V with two lateral spines on anterior border and one medial spine on posterior border. Peraeonal segments VII with medial spine on posterior border. Pleotelson with one medially placed spine on anterior border. Anterior pleonal segment indicated on pleotelson. Three spines on lateral margin of pleotelson. Posterior margin of pleotelson broadly rounded medially with enlarged regions over ventral uropodal exits (Figures 5D and 5E); anus posterior to projecting posterior wall of branchial cavity.
Antenna 1 with 14 total segments (males and females similar); basal plate of segment wide with pointed apex. Antenna 2 dorsally placed with squama; other parts missing. Mandibles each with clawlike molar process (Figure 6D) and three palp articles with terminal segment recurved. Left mandible with lacina mobilis and seven setae in setal row. Exopod of maxilla 1 with at least 11 apical teeth (on which are a few small teeth); endopod with rounded apex with many long setae and no large teeth. Rami of maxilla 2 with no especially long setae; four apical long teeth on outer, four on middle, and many on inner ramus. Maxilliped with four palp articles; apical article with four spines on apex, subapical article with one spine on lateral and two spines on slightly produced medial border. Third article (Figure 5Q) with eight spines on border. Exopod of maxilliped with broadly rounded apex. Three coupling hooks on endite.
Peraeopods I and II ambulatory, almost as long as body; peraeopods III and IV missing; peraeopods V-VII natatory with dactylus absent on each. Male pleopods 1 and 2 as illustrated (Figures 5J, 5K, and 5L). Female operculate pleopod (Figure 5M) with slightly indentate posterior border. Uropod uniramous about two-thirds length of body, ending in long seta.
Type locality. 4-175. 40°46'S, 76°48'W; 40°54'S, 75°56'W; August 2, 1964; ca. 2893 m; 11 specimens: three males, 4.1, 3.4, and 3.0 mm; eight females, 3.8, 3.2 (five), 2.3, and 2.0 mm.
Distribution. Known only from type locality.
Remarks. The species was collected at a station where both Munneurycope antarctica (Eurycopidae) and Paramunnopsis oceanica (Munnopsidae) were collected.”
