Morphology

Umbrella half-spherical in shape. The ex-umbrella contains 16 ridges on its surface which are intermittent with 16 crevices. Velum very wide. 8 radial canals widen toward the end; 8 centripetal canals originate from the wide circular canal. The edge of the umbrella thickened, carries about 48 groups of tentacles of 2 types: long and short. The number of short tentacles, which may have suckers, can reach a thousand. The manubrium is fused to the sub-umbrella surface with 8 mesenteries, which extend along the edge of the umbrella and divide its internal space into 8 isolated chambers. The edge of the umbrella carries 16 small statocysts, each one of which carries 1 concretion.
