Oviparous, paired eggs are laid. Embryos feed solely on yolk (Ref. 50449). Distinct pairing with embrace. Young may tend to follow large objects, such as their mother (Ref. 205).

Eggs are oblong capsules with stiff pointed horns at the corners deposited in sandy or muddy flats (Ref. 205). Egg capsules are 3.6-3.8 cm long and 2.2-2.5 cm wide (Ref. 41249, 41253). Males at 31 cm TL still immature. Life history poorly known (Ref. 114953).

分布於西北太平洋: 日本、琉球、東中國海與臺灣。

偶由底拖網捕獲，非重要之經濟魚類。

體盤長佔全長45.7－48.4%，體盤寬51.3－55.9%。體盤長佔體盤寬約86.5－92.8%，頭長32.3－37.9%，吻長20.9－24.5%，兩眼眶之間的寬度4.3－6.2%，兩出水口間的寬度11.5－12.6%。體盤圓，雄魚吻較尖，雌魚則否，吻軟骨與頭顱軟骨連接，較不堅硬。腹鰭前瓣長，後緣凹陷。尾部細長，其長度大於體盤長和寬。背鰭幾乎接觸在一起，兩背鰭之間無小刺，但體盤背部的表面分布許多絨毛狀小刺，胸鰭基部較稀疏，眼眶周圍及尾上刺較大但不規則分布，體盤腹部則無分布。交接器頂點尖，缺乏偽管(pseudosiphon)。體盤背面呈藍棕色，腹部灰到淡棕色，而洩殖孔及鰓裂附近則顏色較深。感覺孔呈灰白色且不明顯。(陳柔蓉、林沛立2012/11編寫)

屬深海底棲魚類，深度約300－1000公尺，卵生。
