Barnes' Garden Eel

This species slender, elongated, with the depth at the gills 1.1-1.6% of total length; a short head length, 11.2-14.1% of snout-anus length; mouth, as measured by front of upper jaw to rictus, is greater than 3.6% of snout-anus length; head pores are POM 5+4 and ST 2+1 (Ref. 58269).Description: Characterized by pale grey color; numerous small, closely packed brown spots surrounding cephalic sensory pores and anterior lateral-line pores (Ref. 90102).

Found in sand bottoms in about 5-20 m (Ref 90102).

The Barnes' garden eel (Gorgasia barnesi) is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels). It was described by Bruce H. Robison and Thomas M. Lancraft in 1984. It is a marine, tropical eel which is known from the western Pacific Ocean, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. It dwells at a depth range of 5 to 20 metres (16 to 66 ft), and inhabits sand substrates. Males can reach a maximum total length of 121 centimetres (48 in).
