身體適當延長呈長圓柱兩端略窄的微紡錘狀,尾部側扁,頭部及身體呈淡褐色,全長為鰓孔位體高及肛門位體高之10.7-13.6及13.3-17.0倍;肛門靠近全長中點,肛門前長佔全長的47-50 %;尾長無特別延長,其長度約為肛門前長的1.0-1.1倍;尾端較硬,不易彎折,尾部末端鰭條退化,較背鰭及臀鰭的鰭條短;背鰭起點略後於胸鰭基部;奇鰭具有較寬且明顯的黑色邊緣,至末端漸淡,鰭條不分節;胸鰭發達,位於體高中點,胸鰭上2/3處具黑色斑塊,基部上緣約於眼睛垂直中點水平線以上;鰓孔幾乎為垂直,位於身體側邊中間以下,其上緣與胸鰭基部中點等高;全長為頭長之5.2-5.9倍,吻端略尖,口裂末端約位於眼睛中點略後方,上顎略長於下顎,吻長約等於眼直徑,吻長為眼直徑之0.8-1.1倍;眼睛大,約占頭長的19-21 %,眼睛後緣上、下各具一暗色斑;嘴唇發達,具上、下反褶之游離唇瓣;前鼻孔為短管狀,靠近吻端,後鼻孔為橢圓形,位於眼睛前面,眼睛垂直中點水平線下方。上眼窩有3個感覺孔,下眼窩有5個感覺孔,前鰓顎有8-11個感覺孔,顳骨接合處有0個感覺孔;胸鰭鰭條數為10,肛門前背鰭鰭條數為63-67;背鰭前側線孔數6-7,胸鰭前側線孔數6-10,肛門前側線孔數47-55;背鰭前脊椎骨數7-11,肛門前脊椎骨數54-58,血管閉合處前脊椎骨數82-84,總脊椎骨數141-146。

Ariosoma meeki

Ariosoma meeki is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).[3] It was described by David Starr Jordan and John Otterbein Snyder in 1900, originally under the genus Congrellus.[4] It is a subtropical, marine eel which is known from Japan and the Peng-hu Islands, in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Males are known to reach a maximum total length of 53 centimetres.[3]

Named in honor of ichthyologist Seth Eugene Meek (1859-1914), who first recognized the distinctiveness of this species.[5]
