Es troba al Pacífic oriental central: si fa no fa, a 15 milles nàutiques de l'illa del Coco (Costa Rica).[6]
És inofensiu per als humans.[6]

Paraconger ophichthys is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van zeepalingen (Congridae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1899 door Garman.
