描述

體粗且短,呈圓筒狀,尾部略窄。頭部略大,吻部相當短且鈍。背鰭起點在胸鰭基部上方至胸鰭後方,臀鰭起點位於體中央略前。前鼻孔呈管狀,後鼻孔位於眼部前上方,口裂略往後延伸至眼部後方,眼間距相對較寬,鰓孔位於胸鰭基部,向上延伸不超過胸鰭基部中央。牙齒皆短,前上頜齒約四列,閉口時曝露在外,犁骨齒形成一短三角形齒落,上頜齒2-3列,往後漸為單列,下頜齒5-6列,往後漸為單列。全長為頭長之6.0- 6.6倍,為軀幹長之4.0- 4.3倍,為背鰭前長之5.8-6.2倍,為臀鰭起點之2.4-2.5倍。頭長為吻長之5.6-6.0倍,為眼徑之5.2-6.0倍,為口裂之2.8-3.4倍,為眼間距之5.2-6.2倍,為鰓孔高之5.5 to 7.2倍,為胸鰭長之2.5-3.0倍。側線孔列完全,臀鰭前側線孔48-50,全部側線孔約160。脊椎骨式8-12(背鰭前)/49-52(臀鰭前)/162-173(全部)。經檢視發現台灣的標本多為本種,過去所記錄的大頭擬海糯鰻(/P. macrophthalmus/)多為本種之誤鑑。

Parabathymyrus brachyrhynchus is an eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).[3] It was described by Henry Weed Fowler in 1934, originally under the genus Ariosoma.[4] It is a marine, deep water-dwelling eel which is known from the western central Pacific Ocean. It dwells at a maximum depth of 289 metres. Males can reach a maximum total length of 33 centimetres.[3]

The species epithet, "brachyrhynchus", refers to the short snout of the species.[3]
