Ophichthus megalops Asano 1987

This moderately elongate species of Ophichthus, subgenus Coecilophis is distinguished by the following characters: tail 55%, head 11.0% of total length and body depth at gill openings about 4% of TL; origin of dorsal-fin 3.5 pectoral-fin lengths behind head which is more than 1 head length behind gill opening; elongate pectoral fins, non-lanceolate; posterior margin or orbit in advance of rictus; posterior nostril a hole above upper lip is covered by a flap; conspicuous head pores, SO 1+4, IO 4+2, POM 3+6; numerous small, conical teeth, biserial on jaws, uniserial posteriorly on vomer, biserial anteriorly; pale in color, slightly darker dorsally, snout tip and lower jaw darker, fins and anterior nostrils pale, posterior region of anal-fin base black; vertebral formula 29/60/160 (Ref. 84366).

Ophichthus megalops is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels). It was described by Hirotoshi Asano in 1987. It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling eel which is known from Japan, in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. It is known to dwell at a depth of 360 meters (1,180 ft). Males can reach a maximum total length of 33.2 centimeters (13.1 in).

巨目蛇鰻，為輻鰭魚綱鰻鱺目糯鰻亞目蛇鰻科的其中一種，分布於西北太平洋日本三重縣海域，棲息深度可達360公尺，體長可達33.2公分，棲息在底層水域，屬肉食性，生活習性不明。
