Dysomma melanurum Chen & Weng 1967

This species is distinguished by the following characters: presence of pectoral fin; dorsal-fin origin above middle of pectoral fin, predorsal length 11.5-15.0% TL; the lower jaw is longer than upper jaw, slightly curved and not appressed to upper jaw when mouth closed; anus anterior, below pectoral fin, preanal length 15.4-17.3% TL; trunk is very short, trunk length 3.0-5.3% TL; no intermaxillary teeth; multiple rows of teeth on upper jaw, those on innermost row about twice the size of the rest; 5 or 6 (mainly 5) compound teeth on vomer; multiple rows of teeth on lower jaw, the innermost row about twice the size of the rest; head pores: IO 4, SO 3, M 7 (1 with 8), POP 0, AD 1, F 0, ST 0. Lateral-line pores very large, predorsal 10-13, prepectoral 8-11, preanal11-17, total pores 107-117, the last to 1/2 HL before the caudal-fin base. MVF 13-14-135, total vertebrae 131-138; colour of body uniformly light pinkish to grayish with numerous melanophores, posterior margin of anal fin and caudal fin black (Ref. 106136).

罕見的合鰓鰻科魚種，僅供下雜魚利用及學術研究使用。

下頜長大於上頜長，體色呈白色，體表有黑色斑點；前鼻孔具有皮瓣突出，開口朝斜前下方，後鼻孔呈拉長橢圓形，眼眶下有3個感覺孔，眼眶上有4個感覺孔；鋤骨齒總共5顆，沒有前上頜骨篩骨複合齒；背鰭前脊椎骨數13，肛門前脊椎骨數14，總脊椎骨數136，肛門前側線孔數11-15，尾鰭鰭條數11-15，胸鰭鰭條數11-14。形質測量上，各部位與體全長TL的百分比：肛門前長度15.6％，尾長83.3％，軀幹長4.4％，鰓孔位體高4.6％，肛門位體高5.5％，背鰭前長15.6％，頭長11.9％，側線長90.2％；與頭長的百分比：上頜長52.3％，下頜長46.8％，眼窩間距11％，吻長19.4％，眼徑長6.1％，胸鰭長19.4％，鰓孔長22.9％。各部位與體全長比例：肛門前長度6.4，尾長1.2，軀幹長22.5，鰓孔位體高21.6，肛門位體高2.4，背鰭前長6.4，頭長8.4，側線長11.1；與頭長的比例：上頜長1.9，下頜長2.1，眼窩間距9，吻長5.2，眼徑長16.3，胸鰭長4.4，鰓孔長14.4。(陳鴻鳴、楊瑋庭)

主要棲息於近海中上層水域。一般多被以200-300公尺深之底拖網所捕撈，捕撈時會與成群銀漢魚一起上岸，屬中上層水域魚種。生態習性不甚清楚。

Dysomma melanurum is an eel in the family Synaphobranchidae (cutthroat eels). It was described by Johnson T. F. Chen and Herman Ting-Chen Weng in 1967. It is a subtropical, marine eel which is known from the western Pacific Ocean. Males can reach a maximum total length of 23.7 centimetres.
