Body fusiform; mouth large, oblique; pseudobranch present; gillrakers on first arch 17–19 + 5–7 = 22–26; branchiostegal rays 10, 3 on epihyal. Dorsal-fin rays 11–12 (rarely 13) followed by a dorsal adipose fin; pectoral-fin rays (16) 17–19; pelvic-fin rays 6–7; anal-fin rays 22–26 (27), its origin below first few dorsal finrays or slightly anterior to dorsal fin origin. Vertebrae 45–46. Swimbladder well developed, gas-filled, euphysoclistous. Scales present, deciduous.

Photophores (adult): ORB 1, BR (6), OP 3, IP (6), PV (10), VAV-AC1 (24–28), AC2 (5), AC3 (17–18), OA 7 (often fused into 2 or 3 groups).

Morphology

The following description applies to all species of the genus Argyripnus.

Body fusiform; mouth large, oblique; pseudobranch present; gillrakers well developed; branchiostegal rays 10, 3 on epihyal. Dorsl-fin orgin about or anterior to middle of body length; anal fin divided at rays 11–15 by the second AC photophore group; anus about midway between pelvic and anal-fin origins; dorsal adipose fin present. Swimbladder well developed, gas-filled, euphysoclistous. Scales present, deciduous.

Photophores: VAV and first AC photophore groups united by a common photogenic mass extending over first few anal-fin rays; Third OP a double photophore, PV 10; AO 7; IP in a single group of six or rarely seven photophores.

Argyripnus atlanticus is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Argyripnus.[1]

The fish is found worldwide in the tropical waters of the Eastern Atlantic, from Madeira to south of the Canary Islands. In the Western Atlantic, in the Bahamas and the Caribbean Sea. In the Eastern Central Pacific, it is found in Hawaii. This species reaches a length of 7.7 cm (3.0 in). [2]
