Dorsal-fin rays 11–12; anal-fin rays 17 (rarely 18 or 19); pectoral-fin rays 13–14; gill rakers (rarely 15) 16–18 (rarely 19); vertebrae 33. Body broad, tapering into narrow caudal peduncle; its height slightly greater than length of subcaudal photophore group; anal pterygiophore spines, and its narrower trunk and caudal peduncle; post-temporal spine short, needlelike; dorsal spine short; preopercle spine short, triangulate; abdominal keel scales extend only slightly below ventral body margin; first supra-anal photophore markedly lower than other two; first supra-abdominal raised above others, second lower than third, jaw medium to small; teeth minute; gill rakers medium, spinose; in preservative, pigment dark dorsally; dark pigment bar reaches almost to midline followed by light stripe reaching towards mid-dorsal line; ventral margin of dark dorsal pigment markedly raised on trunk above supra-anal photophores; pigment spots present on trunk midline, striations not distinct.

Post-temporal spine simple, bearing no basal spines; lateral edge of post-temporal-supracleithrum smooth; keel scales with smooth ventral surfaces; supraanal photophores separate, usually raised well above anal group. Post-temporal spine short, its length less than one-fourth the diameter of orbit; anal photophore number 7 to 9;body robust, less than 1.9 times body depth; first supra-anal photophore markedly lower than second. Teeth absent on posterior vomerine shaft; second supra-anal photophore even with or raised above third; supra-abdominal photophores nonsymmetrical, first photophore raised well above other two. Gill rakers usually 16 to 18; dorsal-fin rays 11 to 12; lower margin of dark dorsal pigment markedly raised above supra-anal photophores.

所有的發光器鱗片邊緣皆平滑無小棘或鋸齒。PO 1; PTO 1; BR 6; IP 6;PRO 1;OVA 3;OVB 3;PV 10;L 1; VAV 5;ACB 7-10;ACC 4;D10-11﹔A15-18﹔P12-13﹔V 5-7﹔GR 17-18﹔脊椎骨33。側色素條短為粗大的倒三角形,從背緣逐往側腹部延伸,但其尖端並未到達中線。。背側色素條有兩個凹槽。腹上發光器呈V字形結構,#1OVB腹上發光器高於其他兩個,而且#3OVB高於#2OVB約一個發光器的距離。有一短的後顳骨棘出現。臀鰭支鰭骨棘消失。ACA臀上發光器為3,#1ACA獨立,#2和#3 ACA相連並高於#1 ACA及後面的臀部發光器。臀部發光器7-8,在#3和#4 ACB發光器之間有高度差。ACC尾下發光器緊密聚集。

棲地

近海中層魚類。利用矩形之中層拖網Rectangular Midwater Trawl(RMT)在Banda Sea不連續深度採集得知夜晚在100-300m間。在菲律賓的採集得知白天在250m處。在台灣西南部利用底拖網採於330m。以橈腳類、端足類、介形蟲、磷蝦和小魚等為食。
