體延長而側扁,前部稍肥大,尾部細長。腹面正中的發光器為一較大的黑色圓點,位於肛門前,其與腹鰭基底和肛門大致保持等距。吻短而圓鈍;吻端無鱗區窄,僅及鼻孔前。眼中大,上側位,眼徑大於2/3吻長。口中大,亞端位。下頜具一短頦鬚。體被圓鱗,易脫落。第一背鰭9-10軟條;第二背鰭69-70軟條;臀鰭起點與第二背鰭相對;腹鰭軟條數6。體呈淡褐色;胸鰭、腹鰭和臀鰭稍呈紅色;背鰭、臀鰭邊緣呈暗色。以前所記載之蝦夷鬚稚鱈(/Physiculus
maximowiczi/)為本種之同種異名。
棲地
