Japanese Codling

Ventral light organ well behind a line between pelvic fins. Color is light brown to pinkish tan on dorsal portions, grading to blue-black ventrally.

Found on rough, rocky bottom along the continental shelf and upper slope (Ref. 1371), and in sandy or muddy areas of the Southern Japanese and East China seas (Ref. 9137). A carnivore (Ref. 9137). Feeds mainly on pelagic fishes (Ref. 57119).

分布於西北太平洋區，包括東海、日本南部及臺灣南部、北部及東北部。

一般皆以下雜魚處理，較無經濟價值。

體延長而側扁，前部稍肥大，尾部細長。腹面正中的發光器為一較大的黑色圓點，位於肛門前，其與腹鰭基底和肛門大致保持等距。吻短而圓鈍；吻端無鱗區窄，僅及鼻孔前。眼中大，上側位，眼徑大於2/3吻長。口中大，亞端位。下頜具一短頦鬚。體被圓鱗，易脫落。第一背鰭9-10軟條；第二背鰭69-70軟條；臀鰭起點與第二背鰭相對；腹鰭軟條數6。體呈淡褐色；胸鰭、腹鰭和臀鰭稍呈紅色；背鰭、臀鰭邊緣呈暗色。以前所記載之蝦夷鬚稚鱈(/Physiculus maximowiczi/)為本種之同種異名。

底棲性之魚類，喜棲息於水深150-650公尺深的大陸棚緣或上部陡坡水域，其餘生態習性不甚明瞭。
