Ryukyu Gurnard

This species is distinguished by having the following characters: absence of scales on the nape, prepectoral area, breast, or interpelvic area; long and strong cleithral spine (16-29 % SL), P1 12+3; a slight indication of possible hyperostosis of the first infraorbital bone and cleithral spine (Ref. 91768).

A rare (Ref. 9771), benthic (Ref. 75154) species that inhabits continental shelves and insular areas.

分布於印度-西太平洋區，由琉球群島到南中國海 、印尼、澳洲西北部與阿拉弗拉海。臺灣分布於北部海域。

一般以拖網漁船捕獲較多，一般多煮湯，或是油炸使骨酥脆後食用；或充作下雜魚、魚粉等用途。

體延長，稍側扁。頭背面及側面全被骨板。吻突為一大形三角棘，略寬而尖，些微向內側延伸，內側平滑，外側粗糙。肩胛棘和後頸棘非常長且堅硬，幾乎為眼徑的1.5倍；鰓蓋棘和前鰓蓋棘背緣短但堅硬；眼眶前後皆無棘；後頭部的凹槽也不明顯。第二背鰭的基底沒有骨板。體鱗很小，除了頸部及胸部裸鱗外，其餘各部被圓鱗。體紅色，胸鰭內側有暗斑塊外，其餘各部無任何斑點。

主要棲息於砂泥底水域。
