Many Spotted Lefteye Flounder

Mouth rather small, contained2. to 2.6 times in head length, maxillary extending to below the anterior margin or anterior 1/3 of lower eye. Gill rakers present on upper limb. Caudal fin with 2 simple rays on upper and lower margins. In the male, several anterior dorsal rays somewhat elongated.

分布於印度-西太平洋區，西起東印度洋，北至日本，南至新加勒多尼亞。台灣主要分布於西南部及東北部海域。

是可食用的魚類，唯產量不大。

體稍延長型而扁平，呈長橢圓形。頭大型，吻短鈍。眼位於體之左側；下眼稍前於上眼，兩眼間有一狹小骨脊，上眼前有凹陷。口中型；上頜延伸至下眼前方或中央下方；齒呈一列，前方較大。鰓耙長且尖，頂端呈鋸齒狀。兩側皆被圓鱗；僅眼側具側線，側線鱗數70-81。背鰭起始於吻後上方，雄魚前端多條鰭條延長，雌魚及幼魚則無，具軟條100-114；臀鰭正常，具軟條78-91；胸鰭短於頭長；尾鰭圓型，上下緣具2條不分枝鰭條。眼側體呈灰褐色，各鰭灰黃色，背、臀鰭各有一縱行黑褐色斑點，尾鰭前半部上下各有一黑褐邢；盲側乳白色。

幼魚時期像其它一般魚類行浮游生活，在水中游動攝食浮游生物，長大後因體型變化，降至海底，行底棲生活，棲息在砂泥底域，大半時間埋在泥砂中，僅露出兩眼，以捕食小魚或無脊椎動物為主。
