Biology

Inhabit sheltered rocky reefs (Ref. 48637). Also live in intertidal reef flats, lagoon and seaward reefs. Occur over open barren areas, also among corals and under ledges (Ref. 9710). Benthopelagic (Ref. 58302). Often found in pairs, sometimes in small groups. Feed mainly on filamentous red and green algae and coralline red algae but also on corals, tunicates, mollusks, echinoderms, polychaetes, crustaceans and bryozoans. Common (Ref. 9710). Monogamous (Ref. 52884).

體卵圓形,側扁而高,眼後枕骨區突出,尾柄短而高。體側下緣平坦,無縱行皮褶,腹部中央自口部下方至肛門前方則有一稜褶。吻較長而尖;鼻孔單一,不甚明顯。背鰭近似圓刀形,位於體後部,具軟條8-10;臀鰭與其同形,具軟條8-9;無腹鰭;胸鰭寬短,上方鰭條較長,近呈方形,下方後緣稍圓形;尾鰭寬大,呈圓弧形。體紅褐色,佈滿鑲黑邊的藍、白至灰色且小於瞳孔之斑點;眼四周有6-10條放射狀鑲黑邊的藍色紋,延伸至眼眶與吻部;頭部下方有藍至灰色小點;吻端白色;背鰭基下方有一不明顯之黑斑。背鰭、臀鰭與胸鰭透明或淺黃色,鰭緣具細黑邊;尾鰭紅棕色、淺藍色或白色,具許多藍或紅點,鰭緣最外層之斑點連接形成不規則的細帶。

Canthigaster solandri, commonly known as the spotted sharpnose puffer, is a ray-finned species of fish in the pufferfish family. It grows to a length of 11.5 centimeters (4.5 inches) in total length. It lives in the tropical Indo-Pacific: from East Africa to the Line Islands and the Tuamotus, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia and Tonga, to the Hawaiian Islands.[1] This species, like other members of the family Tetraodontidae, demonstrates the ability to rapidly fill itself up like a water balloon, to protect itself from predators. The skin of this species is known to be poisonous.[2][3]
