Caudal fin with a series of faint, narrow undulating lines (Ref. 559).Description: Characterized further by brownish color with combination of fine blue to white lines and white spots on head and body; dorsal fin base with blue or green-edged black spot; yellowish tail, blue-barred; depth of body at origin of anal fin 2.4-3.1 in SL; head length 2.4-2.6 in SL; snout length 1.4-1.6 in head length; bony interorbital width 2.9-3.8 in head length; caudal peduncle depth 2.0-2.4 in head length; slightly rounded caudal fin (Ref. 90102).

分布於西太平洋區，西起菲律賓，東至所羅門，北至日本南部，南至萬那杜。台灣分布於南部、綠島及蘭嶼海域。

具毒性之小型魚類，不具食用價值，皮膚可分泌出毒素，能麻醉或毒死小型動物，故不宜當做觀賞用魚。

體卵圓形，側扁而高，眼後枕骨區突出，尾柄短而高。體側下緣平坦，無縱行皮褶，腹部中央自口部下方至肛門前方則有一稜褶。吻較長而尖；鼻孔單一，不甚明顯。背鰭近似圓刀形，位於體後部，具軟條9-10；臀鰭與其同形，具軟條9；無腹鰭；胸鰭寬短，上方鰭條較長，近呈方形，下方後緣稍圓形；尾鰭寬大，呈圓弧形。體背部紅褐色至綠褐色，腹部稍淡；體側佈滿不規則之紅色條紋；頰部具白點；吻背面具許多平行深色橫紋，至眼眶隔或稍後處橫紋則呈不規則狀；眼四周有放射狀條紋，與吻部橫紋相連；體背部自眼後至背鰭基部有許多平行橫紋。背鰭基底黑褐色，下方有一鑲白邊之黑色眼斑；腹部具褐色斑；腹中線至肛門處有一褐色線；除尾鰭具白紋外，餘鰭為淡色。

暖水性小型魚類，主要棲息於砂泥底之潟湖、珊瑚礁、岩礁或港灣等淺水域。以藻類、碎屑、有孔蟲、多毛類、甲殼類、被囊動物、海綿、苔蘚虫、小型腹足類和魚類等為食。

Canthigaster compressa, also known as the compressed toby or fingerprint toby, is a demersal Marine fish belonging to the family Tetraodontidae.

The fingerprint toby is a small sized fish which grows up to 12 cm.

It is widely distributed throughout the tropical waters of the western Pacific Ocean.

It inhabits the shallow sandy to silty lagoons, harbours or channels from 2 to 12 m. Canthigaster compressa has a diurnal activity.
