Biology

Lives in coastal to outer reef habitats from silty to pristine reefs (Ref. 48637). Occurs in clear, coral-rich areas of lagoon and seaward reefs (Ref. 37816). Sometimes solitary (Ref. 90102). Adults often in pairs along deep drop-offs while juveniles can be found in shallow estuaries (Ref. 48637).

Canthigaster papua, also known as the Papuan toby , is a demersal Marine fish belonging to the family Tetraodontidae.

The Papuan toby is a small sized fish which grows up to 10 cm.[1]

It is widely distributed throughout the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean and of the western Pacific Ocean.[2]

It inhabits coral reefs with clear water in lagoons and external slope even drop-off from 6 to 50 m.[3] Canthigaster papua has a diurnal activity.

It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade.
