體長橢圓形，體頭部粗圓，尾柄側扁。體側下緣無縱行皮褶。口小，端位；上下頜各有2個喙狀大牙板。吻短，圓鈍。眼中大，側上位。無鼻孔，兩側各具一個叉狀鼻突起。體背腹面，除眼周圍與尾柄後部外，全佈滿小棘。鰓膜黑色。背鰭尖，位於體後部，具軟條14；臀鰭與其同形，具軟條13；無腹鰭；胸鰭寬短，後緣呈圓弧形；尾鰭寬大，呈圓弧形。體背部褐色，腹部白色；體側與背部佈滿許多約與瞳孔同大之白斑；腹部與體側下方具一些與眼等大之深色斑點。各鰭灰色，幼魚則為白色。

Hàbitat
És un peix marí, de clima subtropical i demersal que viu entre 10-360 m de fondària.[4][6]
Distribució geogràfica
Es troba des del sud del Japó fins a Austràlia (Nova Gal·les del Sud, Austràlia Meridional i Tasmània) i Nova Zelanda.[7] També és present a la costa meridional atlàntica de Sud-àfrica.[4][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]
Observacions
No es pot menjar, ja que és verinós per als humans.[4]

Morfología
Los machos pueden llegar alcanzar los 35 cm de longitud total.[1][2]
Hábitat
Es un pez de mar de clima subtropical y demersal que vive entre 10-360 m de profundidad.
Distribución geográfica
Se encuentra desde el sur del Japón hasta Australia (Nueva Gales del Sur, Australia Meridional y Tasmania) y Nueva Zelanda .
Observaciones
No se puede comer ya que es venenoso para los humanos.

瓣叉鼻魨（学名：Arothron firmamentum），又名河魨、規仔，为輻鰭魚綱魨形目四齒魨亞目四齒魨科叉鼻魨屬下的一个种，為亞熱帶海水魚，分布於西太平洋區，從日本南部至澳洲及紐西蘭海域，棲息深度10-360公尺，體長可達35公分，棲息在大陸棚及大陸坡，生活習性不明，具有毒性。

별복은 복어목 참복과의 바닷물고기이다. 몸의 길이는 약 35cm이다. 겉모양은 둥근 곤봉과 같다. 꼬리자루 뒤와 주둥이를 제외한 몸 전체에 뿌리가 있는 가시 2개가 촘촘히 있다. 등지느러미의 뒤쪽과 배의 뒷부분에 비늘이 없고 그 밖의 부분은 가시로 덮여 있다.
등의 색깔은 암갈색이고 때로는 불분명한 푸른색 점이 흩어져 있다. 배는 연한 색으로 흑갈색 선이 몇 줄 있을 때도 있다. 몸 전체에 계란 모양의 흰색 점이 흩어져 있고 각 지느러미는 연한 색이다.
