Brief Summary

provided by EOL authors
This is a genus of small, brightly colored reef fish who are best known for their method of feeding. Commonly called "cleaner wrasses" these fish make a living by picking off ectoparasites, scales and mucus from fishes. They solicit these feedings by swimming with a characteristic bobbing motion. This service is so valuable to the clients that the cleaner wrasses are often seen feeding inside the mouths and gills of predatory fish like groupers and snappers.
