Description: A dull greenish black species with a small black saddle-spot on the caudal peduncle, edged with blue. Juveniles with a blue-edged ocelli near the end of the dorsal fin (Ref. 48636). Body depth 1.8-2.0 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).

A shallow water species, solitary, in holes of small rocks on sandy bottom with coral rubbles. Adults inhabit shallow bays, silty coastal reefs and harbors with sparse coral and algal growth. 分布於印度-西太平洋區，由斯里蘭卡，安達曼海 (普吉島) 與印澳群島向東至新不列顛、索羅門群島、聖克魯斯群島與萬那杜，北至日本。台灣各地沿岸均可見。

小型之雀鯛，無食用價值。有人將其作觀賞魚之用。

體呈橢圓形而側扁，標準體長為體高之1.8-2.0倍。吻短而鈍圓。口中型；頜齒兩列，小而呈圓錐狀。眶下骨裸出，下緣具細的鋸齒，眶前骨與眶下骨間具缺刻；前鰓蓋骨後緣具鋸齒。體被櫛鱗；鼻部具鱗；側線之有孔鱗片17-18個。背鰭單一，軟條部不延長而略呈尖形，硬棘XIII，軟條14-15；臀鰭硬棘II，軟條14-15；胸鰭鰭條17-18；尾鰭叉形，上下葉末端呈尖狀。體一致呈暗黑綠色；尾柄上緣具有一個藍色邊緣的小黑色鞍狀斑。 稚魚在背鰭的末端附近具一個邊緣藍色的假眼斑；成魚消失。

主要棲息於有珊瑚殘礫的砂質底部上小岩石的洞中、淺灣、淤泥的岸礁以及有稀疏的珊瑚與海藻的成長的港灣等。一種在淺水區域生活的魚種；獨居性。主要以底藻為食。

Pomacentrus tripunctatus (three-spot damsel) is a small solitary damselfish. It is found in reef habitats ranging from the Indian Ocean to Melanesia.

Shallow water species. Inhabits shallow bays and silty coastal reefs to 3 m depth. Feeds mainly on algae.
