Description: The background color of this species varies from light tan to deep blue or dark brownish purple (Ref. 1602). Dorsal yellow-orange zone, dorsal-fin with ocellus on posterior. Body depth 1.9-2.1 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).

分布於印度-太平洋區，由模里西斯到美屬薩摩亞，北至伊豆島，南至羅雷淺灘與新加勒多尼亞。台灣發現於南部沿岸。

本身體色豔麗，是受歡迎之水族觀賞魚。

體呈橢圓形而側扁，標準體長為體高之1.9-2.1倍。吻短而鈍圓。口中型；頜齒兩列，小而呈圓錐狀。眶下骨裸出，下緣具鋸齒；前鰓蓋骨後緣具鋸齒。體被櫛鱗；鼻部具鱗；側線之有孔鱗片17-18個。背鰭單一，軟條部不延長而呈角形，硬棘XIII，軟條15-16；臀鰭硬棘II，軟條15-16；胸鰭鰭條17-18；尾鰭叉形，上下葉末端呈尖狀。體呈淡黃褐色到深藍色或深紫褐色；頭之上半部、背部及背鰭為橘色；頭之橘色部位另具數條藍紋；體側具多條藍色點狀縱紋。鰓蓋上緣有一稍大之黑斑，胸鰭基部上方另具一很小黑點。尾鰭淡至暗色。無論任何時期，背鰭末端皆具眼狀斑。

主要棲息於混合著珊瑚與碎石的潟湖與臨海礁石區域，棲息深度從低浪花區到深度 40 公尺左右。獨居性。以絲狀藻與小型無脊椎動物為食。

Pomacentrus vaiuli, the ocellate damselfish, is a species of damselfish in the family Pomacentridae from the Pacific Ocean. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to a size of 10 cm (3.9 in) in length.
