Juveniles uniformly yellowish (Ref. 1602), adults dark brown to black (Ref. 37816).

Oviparous, distinct pairing (Ref. 205).

Lives among branches of live and dead corals of sheltered shallow reefs (Ref. 2334). Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive (Ref. 205), and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal (Ref. 94114). Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters (Ref. 94114).

分布於印度-太平洋區，由蘇門答臘至社會群島， 北至日本，南至澳洲、新加勒多尼亞及東加等。台灣分布於南部及東沙島等海域。

小型魚類，僅具學術研究價值。

體長橢圓形，稍側扁；頭鈍短。上下唇具鋸齒緣。雄、雌魚無冠膜；具鼻鬚、眶上鬚及頸鬚，皆細長型。D. IX-X(通常為X), 19-21； A. II, 18-20；P. 16-17； V. I, 2。背鰭高而大型，中間缺刻非常淺；背鰭與尾柄以鰭膜相連，臀鰭不與尾柄相連；臀鰭前方鰭條略為延長，同樣高而大型；尾鰭末端略延長而呈梳狀，軟條不分支。體一致為黃褐至暗褐色；尾鰭淡色；背鰭第I及II棘間之鰭膜具黑斑，另有一黑斑於胸鰭基底上端。

主要棲息於受保護的淺水域珊瑚礁區，常活動於死的或活的珊瑚枝芽間。

Atrosalarias holomelas, the brown coral blenny, is a species of combtooth blenny native to coral reefs of the southwestern central Pacific Ocean. It grows to a length of 14.5 centimetres (5.7 in) and can be found in the aquarium trade.
