Redtail Triplefin

Red and orange, marbled with white, broad orange or red bar on caudal peduncle of female, black head "mask" and caudal peduncle in male, and reddish caudal fin. Head, chest, and pectoral-fin base scaleless; tiny orbital tentacle; mandibular pores 3-4 + 1 + 3-4. Maximum size to 4.4 cm TL (Ref. 90102).

Adults inhabit rock and coral reefs at 7 m or shallower (Ref. 90102). Eggs are hemispherical and covered with numerous sticky threads that anchor them in the algae on the nesting sites (Ref. 240). Larvae are planktonic which occur primarily in shallow, nearshore waters (Ref. 94114).

分布於西太平洋區，包括台灣、日本、菲律賓及萬那杜等。台灣分布於南部及澎湖海域。

小型魚類，僅具學術研究價值。

體形小，圓柱狀。上頜向後延伸至眼前半部下方；上下頜齒小，外列齒較大；鋤骨及腭骨均具齒；眼眶上緣皮膜與鼻瓣膜均細長，無鋸齒緣。頤部感覺孔 4+1+4。頭、頸、腹部及胸鰭基無鱗，其餘被櫛鱗；背鰭與臀鰭基均具鱗；腹部後緣具少許圓鱗；側線不連續，分為前後二段，前段側線為孔鱗，孔鱗側線不陡降，末端位於第二背鰭最後一棘下方；後段側線為缺刻鱗，缺刻側線鱗從孔鱗側線末端起延伸至尾柄；最後孔鱗與缺刻側線鱗列之間具一鱗列；側線上鱗列 3-4。D. III+XII-XIII+9-10；A. I+18-19(18)；P. iii-vi+5-6+vii； L.l. 16+18-20；背鰭分成三枚；胸鰭末端達第十五至最後一側線孔鱗。體 H橫帶擴大，成橙紅色；頭紅色；上頜至眼前緣具一明顯的紅褐色暗線；眼下緣具一白斜帶；頭腹及體腹白色；尾柄橫帶明顯；胸鰭基部具一大紅斑，及二至三個小紅斑，或擴散；除腹鰭白色外，各鰭均為橙紅色。以前所記載之赤身雙線鳚(/Enneapterygius erythrosoma/)為本種之同種異名。

主要棲息於潮間帶至水深約7公尺的岩石區。以藻類為食。

Enneapterygius rubicauda, the redtail triplefin, is a species of triplefin blenny in the genus Enneapterygius. It was described by Shen Shih-Chieh in 1994. They occur in the western Pacific Ocean, including the Ryukyu and Ogasawara Islands, Taiwan, Philippines, New Caledonia and Vanuatu.
