Characterized by more or less uniformly reddish to dark brown color; snout with dark stripe on side; longitudinal scale series 25; head and nape without scale; restricted gill opening to base of pectoral fin; depth of body at anus 4.5-5.3 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Inhabits deep water on sponges and soft corals in depth of 25 meters or more (Ref. 48637).
