Domine

Dorsal profile of head slightly elevated in front of anterior nostril, then nearly straight to origin of dorsal fin. Preopercle with two sharp spines at its lower angle. The mouth has several fangs, and a pair of large canines near the tip of the lower jaw which are exposed when the mouth is closed. Lateral line double, the lower branching off under the 5th or 6th dorsal spine. Overall color is grayish blue with the head being slightly darker than the body.

Rare species, probably mesobenthopelagic. Consumed as food (Ref. 4537). Reported to have been taken from 200-350 m in Jamaica (J. Tame pers. Comm. 08/16).

分布於印度-太平洋區海域，包括紅海、印尼外海、日本、臺灣與夏威夷等海域。臺灣記錄於東北部海域。

偶被漁船捕獲，不具經濟價值。

背鰭XV, I, 18；臀鰭II, I, 16；胸鰭15；腹鰭I, 5；主要尾鰭鰭條9+8=17；脊椎骨數16+16=32；上列側線鱗數185(左)/193(右)；下列側線垂直部分鱗片數65，下列側線縱向部份鱗片數195/198。幽門垂5。上脊椎骨(epineurals) 2。體略短，扁平，體長為體高之4.4倍。背部輪廓略微上升，背鰭基部平整。頭略大，體長為頭長之3.5倍。主鰓蓋骨具有兩脊，末端不具棘。下鰓蓋骨下緣光滑，不具棘。口大，略為傾斜，向後延伸至眼中部，頭長為上頜長之2倍。下頜略前於上頜。上頜齒前方具5獠牙，後方15顆犬齒，下頜前方具一對獠牙，後方8顆較大犬齒。鋤骨不具齒，腭骨單列6個小犬齒。眼大，眼間距略窄，頭長為眼徑之3倍，為眼間距之5.8倍。具兩相連之背鰭，約略等高，兩背鰭間凹陷；胸鰭短，短於腹鰭；尾鰭深叉。側線起始於鰓裂上方，在胸鰭上方，約背鰭第六棘下一分為二，上部沿背鰭輪廓延伸至尾鰭基部；下部垂直向下，至腹鰭基部而後彎，沿腹部輪廓延伸至尾鰭基部。全身銀灰色，第二背鰭及臀鰭基部白，其餘各鰭略黑。

深海游泳性。肉食性，以深海魚類及無脊椎動物為食。

The domine (Epinnula magistralis) is a tropical species of snake mackerel found in all oceans at depths of from 100 to 185 metres (328 to 607 ft). This species can reach a length of 100 centimetres (39 in) SL though most do not exceed 45 centimetres (18 in) SL. While not specifically targeted, this fish is edible and is eaten when caught.
