Light tan to brown in color; caudal fin dusky, other fins clear (Ref. 4412). Teeth patches on midline of roof of mouth and tongue large, broad and granular (sometimes partly obscured by mucous) (Ref 9834).

偶被漁船捕獲，不具經濟價值。

背鰭鰭條XII, 17；臀鰭鰭條II, 14；胸鰭鰭條19；上前尾鰭鰭條8。鰓耙8+17=25。側線鱗49。體長為頭長之3.2倍；為體高之3.9倍；為胸鰭長之2.8倍。頭長為眼徑之3.1倍；為眼間距之3.1倍。身體較為延長，略寬。頭部小，前方略圓。口小，亞端位，向後延伸略超過眼睛前緣。眼中大。上下頜各具一排犬齒狀牙齒。鋤骨及腭骨具顆粒狀牙齒。兩個緊靠之背鰭，背鰭起點與胸鰭基部等齊。第二背鰭起點略前於臀鰭起點。胸鰭很長，達第二背鰭之第10鰭條。腹鰭短，插入點在胸鰭基部之後。臀鰭基部小於第二背鰭基部。尾鰭深叉型。鱗片較大，幾乎覆蓋滿全身。體色一致黑褐色，鰓蓋具有一暗色斑。

深海游泳性，亦可見於淺海或河口地區。肉食性，以深海魚類及無脊椎動物為食。具有砂囊可以代為磨碎食物。
