Translucent when fresh with a reddish cast, overlaid with iridescence particularly on abdomen and operculum predominated by golden hues; dusky caudal fin with hyaline border; 1st and 2nd dorsal and anal fin pale to dusky or blackish, other fins are clear with pink rays. Anterior nostril without long flap. Rhomboid caudal fin. 23-24 scales in longitudinal series. Gill rakers 4-5+11-13, 1-7 developed. Convex interorbital space. Oblique mouth. 描述

體延長。前鰓蓋骨邊緣平滑。前鼻孔之瓣膜短。有犬齒和絨毛狀齒,上頜骨延伸至眼後。尾鰭尖形。體大圓鱗,易脫落;側線不完全。D. VI-I,8;A. II,8;P. 15-17;GR. 1+7;Ll. 19-25;BD. 3.90-4.25 in SL。體半透明而略帶紅色,鱗片上具褐色斑駁;腹部及鰓蓋具金黃色澤。第一、第二背鰭及臀鰭淡色至略呈暗色或黑色;尾鰭暗色,上下緣末端淡色;餘鰭淡色而略帶粉紅。

Pseudamia hayashii és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels apogònids.[5]

Descripció

Hàbitat

És un peix marí, associat als esculls[8] i de clima tropical (32°N-28°S) que viu entre 2 i 64 m de fondària a les llacunes. S'amaga en petites coves i sota sortints del fons marí.[6][9]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba a la conca Indo-Pacífica: des del golf d'Aden fins a Samoa,[10] el sud del Japó[11] i Austràlia Occidental.[12][6][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]

Observacions

És inofensiu per als humans.[6]

Pseudamia hayashii, commonly known as Hayashi's cardinalfish, is a species of cardinalfish native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans frpm the Gulf of Aden to Samoa, north to southern Japan and south to Western Australia.[1] The specific name honours the Japanese ichthyologist Masayoshi Hayashi, a curator at the Yokosuka City Museum, who has studied the cardinalfishes of Japan and who lent a specimen of P. hayashi on learning of the authors' research on the genus Pseudamia.[2]
