Sharp Nosed Longfin

Description: Characterized by brown color; pair of brown spots behind eye; cheek and operculum with orange patch; irregular dark lines on forehead; dorsal and anal fin whitish with large blackish area on posterior lobes; dorsal fin with orange tips and black submarginal stripe; pair of large black spots on base of caudal fin; blackish central region and orange marks on caudal fin; pelvic fins yellowish; tubed lateral line scales 18-21+9-15; midlateral scales series 23-25; predorsal scales 9-11; cheek scale rows 4-5 (Ref. 90102).

Eggs are guarded by the male parent (Ref. 205).

分布於西太平洋區，西起印尼，東至萬那杜，北至日本。台灣分布於東部海域。

小型魚類，不具食用價值，唯體色豔麗，為海水觀賞魚。

體延長而側扁，頭部圓。眼中大。吻短。口中型，可伸縮；上下頜等長，具有絨毛狀或犬齒，另具鋤骨齒及口蓋骨齒；上頜骨末端延伸至眼後緣。體側之側線兩條：在上方者接近背鰭基部；另一條則近尾部中央。背鰭單一，硬棘部較長且鰭膜間具深刻，具硬棘XII，軟條7；臀鰭硬棘III，軟條9；背鰭軟條和臀鰭軟條呈尖形；腹鰭硬棘I，軟條4，特別發達，末端延伸至臀鰭中部；胸鰭下枝經常呈2分枝；尾鰭圓形。體呈黃褐色；體側具6-8條暗色不顯之橫帶；眼後具兩黑點。各鰭灰褐色而具有藍色細縱紋及橘色寬緣。

主要棲息於潮池、沿岸內或潟湖區內石礫底或珊瑚礁盤之水域。白天躲於洞穴或石縫間，晚上則游至開放水域捕食甲殼類及小魚等。
