體延長，側扁，頭背部於背鰭前方呈一多肉的脊，約至眼睛處陡降，狀如方形頭；背鰭前中央線上有一縱走稜脊。口中大，端位；上頜骨延伸至眼中部下方；上下頜齒具細小圓錐狀齒。前鰓蓋骨後緣呈細小鋸齒，下緣光滑。體呈銀白帶粉紅色，腹部白色，體側無任何縱帶；自眼眶下方至上頜有一條銀色帶延伸。背鰭黃色，中央有白色或透明不連續色帶，第I和第II硬棘之間偶有小暗點；臀鰭色暗，每條軟條間有小型白斑點；腹鰭黃色，前緣白色；尾鰭上緣頂端白色，具5-6條輻射黃縱帶，縱帶下另具黃色小點，下葉呈三角暗色區。
棲地

主要棲息於砂泥質海底。活動較深，深度約在水深50-200公尺間。為肉食性之魚種，以小魚、蝦等為食。
