描述

體側扁而高;背部輪廓隆起,體高以背鰭第I棘處為最高。頭小,頭背部顱骨裸露,具輻射狀骨質突起。吻略長,圓錐狀。口小,唇厚;兩頜等長,頜齒數行,圓錐形;鋤骨無齒。鰓蓋骨無棘;鰓耙細長。體被中大櫛鱗,頰部及眼後部被細鱗;側線完全。背鰭連續,硬棘XI,第III、IV棘最強大,軟條13;臀鰭硬棘V,第II棘較強大,軟條9;腹鰭起點在胸鰭基部後緣之下方,具I強棘;尾鰭淺凹形。體銀色而略帶黃色,鰭部分帶黑色。

Pentaceros japonicus, the Japanese armorhead or Japanese boarfish, is a species of armorhead native to the western Pacific Ocean from southern Japan south to New Zealand and Australia. It occurs at depths from 100 to 830 m (330 to 2,720 ft). It can reach a length of 25 cm (9.8 in). It is a commercially important species and can be found in the aquarium trade.[2]
