Esox lucius (Northern Pike) is a species of ray-finned fishes in the family Esocidae. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to China, Georgia, Lithuania, Uzbekistan, Germany, Armenia, The Netherlands, Finland, Ukraine, Belarus, Jersey, Turkmenistan, Latvia, Switzerland, Greece, Russia, Albania, San Marino, Sweden, France, Czech Republic, the Palearctic, The Nearctic, Mongolia, Monaco, Belgium, Serbia, Denmark, Poland, Luxembourg, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Liechtenstein, Canada, Romania, Vatican City, Slovakia, Moldova, Norway, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, United States, Estonia, and United Kingdom. They are solitary, diurnal carnivores. Individuals can grow to 150 cm. They have sexual reproduction. They rely on swimming and body/caudal fin propulsion to move around.
