In Panama this species has been collected from the reef off French Fort (USNM 1017377), Panama Bay, Gulf of Panama, eastern Pacific, from a depth of 1 m. This record is surprising (specimen not examined), as this species typically occurs from Ecuador to Peru. However, it is hard to imagine that it was confused with Arbacia stellata, the only other shallow water arbacioid that occurs in the eastern Pacific waters off Panama. This record may represent a transient population of this species, where the larvae were carried up from Ecuador into the Gulf of Panama, but did not receive sufficient recruitment to establish a stable population.
