Malpighia diversifolia Brand. Zoe 5 : 104. 1901 Leaf-blades oval or suborbicular, varying to ovate or obovate, 2-4 cm. long, obtuse or rounded at the apex, tomentulose beneath, but thinly so at maturity, mostly rounded at the base, short-petioled ; cj'ines few-flowered, long-peduncled, exceeding the leaves, the branches tomentulose ; sepals lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 3-4 mm. long, the glands scarcely one half the length of the sepal-body ; corolla pink, 1S-20 mm. wide, the larger petals 9-10 mm. long, the blades lacerate-denticulate ; drupes much depressed, about 1 cm. long, red.
Type locality : San Jose del Cabo, Lower California. Distribution : Southern Lower California.
