Plants with tall much-branched stem ; leaf-blades ovate, oblong, or oval, 1-5 cm. long, obtuse or abruptly pointed, more or less glaucous, usually conspicuously so beneath, glabrous, usually abruptly narrowed or truncate at the base, slender-petioled, the glands borne at the base of the blade or on the upper part of the petiole ; panicles often widely branched, usually many-flowered, the rachis pubescent mostly with dark-red hairs or glabrous at least at maturity ; sepals oblong to lanceolate, 3-5 mm. long ; corolla yellow, the larger petals 7-12 mm. long, the blades mostly ovate ; capsules 3.5-4.5 mm. long, the faces scarcely wrinkled.
Type locality : Acambaro, Guanajuato.
Distribution : Mexico to Panama ; naturalized throughout the West Indies.
