2011-07-10 Lower Austria, district Bruck-Leitha (Reisenbach stream, 170 msm Quadrant 7965/3).German names: Gross-Brennnessel + Flgel-BraunwurzUrtica dioica is easy to recognise in the background (to the left); the plants hanging over the stream just to the right are not so easy if you don't know them by habitus - those are Scrophularia umbrosa. (See also notes in the shot, also about the same species up front, out of focus; the leaves to the right - foreground, out of focus - of course are of Alnus glutinosa; and in the background, bearing red fruit, Viburnum opulus).

2011-05-11 Vienna XXII. district, Lobau - Danube National Park (155 msm Quadrant 7864/2).German name: Nessel-Teufelszwirn, Nessel-Seide; Gross-BrennnesselIt does not look very cozy, but it is the preferred 'nursery' for parasitic Cuscuta europaea: here, two (!) young seedlings already are climbing the spiky stalk of one Urtica dioica; a couple of weeks later there were already a dozen of them on most stinging nettles growing on this place.See also links below to more photos from the same place.
